Smile cutting down diffs

I want to get my diffs cut down a bit, axles are easy to get cut and resplined but what is the best way to shorten a housing? can you remove the tube from the pumkin and cut and refit or do you cut from the wheel end before the "C" and weld, its a hp44 front. The back wont be a prob as it is a 9in. Any ideas?

you can get an engineering shop to remove the tubes from the pumkin and press them back in, I've had it done before

Driveline at Brendale is another place to try Ian. I was on the phone to the Archifield office this morning about the front tailshaft in the Grand. While I was on hold they mentioned doing 9 inches for drag cars so I asked the guy and he said that the Brendale shop would do it.

Just being nosey......Why narrower? Is it for a road or trail only rig?
I ask cause generally IMHO wider is better offraod....and the engineers often don't like them being narrowed for onroad use....so I'm not sure what the benefit of narrowing them would be.....

The cj that I am building I want to be a old school setup, and it still needs to be able to drive on the road. I want to keep it leaf sprung so the pumkin in the front is to close to where the spring mount would need to go. I want to cutdown the long side about 4inchs to bring the pumpkin accross a bit. That will still be a little bigger than a tj trac (alot better than the skinny trac i had). Also the back 9in the pinion is offset about 4inchs to one side(not that that matters) but cutting it on one side would put it in the center. I will run + offset on the road rims to get it as close under the flairs as possible and off road I will run 15x11 beadlock I have with large neg offset. Any ideas are welcome.
