Hi Renovator, my son put a new head unit in the Commander, it had the Boston Acoustic system standard.
He installed a pioneer i think, it works brilliantly and I think he retained a lot of the Boston gear. He did say it was a bit of mucking around, but when I was at his place over Christmas, I heard it and the blue tooth phone over radio definitely worked well. If you have any problems I can get him to post up some info, he is a sparky at the mines.

Default Weathershields

As it's raining a fair bit up here at the moment
I finally got around to putting these weather shields on
Got them from windowvisorcomau on eBay

They look very good from the outside
They really do distort the view from the drivers seat though
And the A pillar is so bloody big now I found it necessary to slow down at roundabouts
There is a huge gap between the start of the weathershield and the wing mirror
This made a huge noise at highway speed

There is also some strange effect where the end of the weathershield is catching the air and pushing it straight at my right ear.
Dunno how long they'll stay on

Default Lower Front Door HInge

The lower hinge on my drivers door has been groaning/creaking a lot lately.
Whilst I was in the mood I thought I'd better clean it properly.

Couple of blocks of wood to hold the door up
By removing the mudflap and inner fender plastic I was able to get at the A pillar bolts

Whilst on the bench I noticed there are some little gaps in the hinge pins
(but I couldn't get the camera to focus close up)
There is also an opening at the top of door hold roller
I clamped the hinge to the bench and closed it
Then with a pair of multi-grips I was able to remove the spring
I cleaned the whole thing in petrol, washed and dried it.
Finally I dosed it up with oil through the small gaps and top of the roller
Dunno what the manual says but a couple of drops from an oil can and let it soak down should be good for these hinges.

Default Stereo Install Take Two

Well that was Quick
The computerised stereo loom turned up yesterday
CRUX Interface Solutions SOOCR-26
How can I get a parcel from USA quicker than from Victoria
Anyway, had to work through this mess

Few hours later and finally got to this stage #WTF
But MUSIC

Mucked around a bit more to discover removing the intermediate loom is OK
Swapped the vents into the new fascia

It was easy enough to bend the tabs with a pair of pliers

Not real impressed with the plastic stereo mounting brackets
After finding some screws to suit to radio
Took me at least half a dozen goes fitting/removing the stereo to get it lined up
But now it Almost looks like a bought one
Screen level with the fascia and the buttons slightly proud

I've gained; two USB ports, reverse camera, Apple CarPlay makes everything handsfree,
capacitive touch screen, better sound quality
and a high pitched whine from the tweeters but only when the ignition is on

I've lost; CD player (no biggy), fader and the dash board is now in German

WARNING this a NO BEER job because it's a real mind &*^%

Not only did it reset to default Deutsche,
but it won’t let me change to any other language
Maybe I should've read this thread first ?
