Im getting a similar problem. Whilst the engine is cold/warm the pressure acts normally sitting on 3 at idle then 4 (ish) when driving. However when hot the gauge goes of the dial. Again though when idle it sits back at 3.

Oil and filter were changed 1500 ks ago. Still clean and the right amount. I have removed what i think is the sensor (located next to the oil filter on my 97). The contacts were clean and it looked in good order.

Any ideas?

Mine sits nearish to 4 when driving. I wouldnt worry too much. If it gets near 5, then start worrying

Just an update to my problem.

It was a faulty gauge.

Mine has sat hard to the right ever since replacing the sender unit. I think its a faulty/wrong sender as it's shorter than the old one.

cheers
