Default Help changing ring gear dana 44

Ive got a 2008 jk 2.8crd with factory 3.21 diff gears. I want to upgrade to 3.73, ive got a new front diff with 3.73 to go in so i got a second hand ring gear and pinion for the rear. Ive been told that to change the rear gears i need to use a differnet carrier as the carrier has different bolt sizes to the 3.21. I do have another carrier that bolts to the 3.73 but its an open centre and i want to keep the lsd thats already in the diff. Can i use the lsd from the 3.21 and put it in the open carrier? Or is there another way to bolt the 3.73 ring gear to the lsd carrier?

Thanks alot

In my opinion it's will be a waste of time and money to go to 3.73, I would be looking at 4.11 as a starting point depending on tyre size and use, also JK don't have a LSD so not sure where you got your info on that, they are an open diff with BLD (brake lock differentials).

I thought 3.21's in a D30 needed a new carrier to go lower. But a D44 should be a straight swap ? Are you thinking LSD as service record showed pricing for such an additive... Clutch type LSD can wear quick... TrueTrac Looking to do similar myself but $$$ and figure 3.73-4.11 with 33's would give decent use of 6th gear at least.

Only reason im going 3.73 is beacuse the new front diff i got has that ratio so its cheaper to just change the rear to match. Im currently running 33s with 3.21 and it drives great. I plan on running 35s so 3.73 should be fine?

If your planning on 35's I'd be going to 4.56, I still say going to 3.73 is a waist of time and money. Do you wheel it or tow anything.

I go wheeling a little bit but the 33s go fine on the 3.21 so i figure 3.73 would be sweet as its only 2inch extra tyre

I used to run 32's with 3.21's and found it too tall especially when towing so now I run 34's with 4.11 and reckon it's spot on for on road driving. I would assume 3.73 would better suite 33's then? If you're in a manual you may find you have to ride the clutch when doing hill starts on even the slightist hill.
