New bare heads are not that expensive, unless the HO engine uses different castings than std 4.7L that is the route I would go. They are around $400 AUD each delivered for stock 4.7L heads.
Bottom end is nothing unusual and can easily be repaired.
Put a timing chain kit in when you do it too.

They do use different castings, I think I costed them at $650 each, still not too bad.

If the ally is soft, don't they check that anyways?
Yes replaced the entire fuel system on it, as well as the tranny, transfer case all bushes and suspension.

Good shops do but the softness can vary depending on how hot they have got to in their lives, some machine shops take a chance with some degradation in hardness whereas others will only repair heads at full hardness as they don't want to risk comebacks.

Do you have a link skipperau? I think the best I found was just under $2000.
Have a look at my thread here:
http://www.ausjeepoffroad.com/forum/...d.php?t=142283
All up the rebuild cost me about $3500, with $1950 of that spent on the heads.
I've now done 52,000Km and runs beautifully.
I believe it was worth every cent.
Good luck.
Ruffy.

Hi ruffy01, this is the sort I was looking at, https://www.rockauto.com/en/moreinfo...0771&jsn=10527
Sorry, $700 plus post. I worked it out a couple of months ago, the end price was significantly cheaper than you ended up with, I just can find my calculations ATM.
Doug.

Wow, Rockauto did not have them in stock last time I looked.
That price is cheaper than buying the camshaft alone from most places.
Thanks Doug.
Cheers,
Ruffy.

I too busy to research the whole new head scene.
Is that a good deal?
