Default JK Wrangler 2.8L Turbo Diesel

Hi Need Help with very difficult morning starts for my Wrangler,
I live in Samoa (tropics) and bought 2009 Wrangler second hand from someone I know have had problems with morning starts and blowing black smoke when it starts.
The glow plug indicator light never comes on. Had to replace a new starter last month and that died while trying to start it last week.
Can anyone help please
Toti

VIN: 1J8GE549X7L216123
so its J8 Series/Model

Turn ignition on & see if you have voltage at glow plugs. If not, that is the problem. May be the glow plug relay or fuse is gone.

It wont be the glow plugs, I am yet to replace a set on JK CRDS, even ones coming up to 300k are still ok.

Its either the intake pump or a failing TIPM.

Turn the key to "on" and listen for the fuel pump priming, if this fails to prime, the car will struggle to start and when it does it will puff out a bit of black smoke..

The car requires 2200+psi of fuel rail pressure before the injectors fire, a dying battery will crank slowly and take a while to build up to this pressure, which leads to a failed starter motor. In your case it has already died once..

1. Check the voltage of the battery by doing a load test.
2. Check fuel pressure from intake pump to fuel filter to ensure its working when it should.
3. if you turn the key but don't always hear the pump priming, you need to open up the TIPM and inspect for damage/blown faulty board.

Join the CRD jk owner facebook page, its not a common fault but ive had to deal with it more times then I would have liked. 90% of the time its a failed intake pump
