Ok guys I'm making the plunge and getting some Cooper Discoverer STT Pros, they're exy but I want to give them a go. The best of the tyre shops I call can't be sure they'll fit.... so my final follow up question here is what is the largest size I can fit on my Overland wrangler on 18" rims without lift/guardrub?

I have 255/70/18s now, https://tiresize.com/calculator/ suggests that equal options are :
255/70R18 32.1x10R18 32.1"Equal
275/65R18 32.1x10.8R18 32.1"

But St George tyres think I can fit 305/60/18s.... and Tyrepower think it won't fit. What do you know?

Update on this dark magic: Tyrepower think 305s will be way too large and will bubble over the rim and look odd without changing to wider rims (sigh).

They DO have 275/65/18s.

There are tyre shops and then there are tyre shops!

Dealing with people that are used to fitting rubber bands onto boy racer euro jap crap, foulcans and commodes can be an exercise in futility!

They have absolutely no concept of functionality of wider tyres on a narrower rim or airing down for greater grip and traction off road. I did have a Jax tyre place offer "Nitrogen" as opposed to normal air as it wouldn't leak as much and provide a more temperature stable inflation method.
I did ask for a spare bottle of nitrogen to take away to "air up" with but they didn't see the funny side of pointing out their stupidity!

Great set of tyres the STT Pro. You may want to look into some mud flaps for the front if the side rails ever come off. The Pros like to throw the rocks and slop out, that's for sure.

I'll be updating my review on them shortly. Check the review section for more details.

Thanks guys and girls - I got the 275/65/18 boots put on yesterday and I love them, they look awesome! Definitely chunkier, can feel the lumps as I turn and road noise with windows down is of course noticeable whereas it wasn't with ATs, but they were ATs! I am super pleased and I'm sure it's just something I'll adapt to.

Now to find some mud!
