Default Roof top tent on a JK

Hi guys,
Does any one know what of racks I can use to mount my roof top tent on my jk.
I'm not keen on a full rack across the roof. I just want to use rola or rino rack style roof bars, as when the roof toper is not on I want the bars to come off. What's available and what sort of weight rating is on the hard top.
Thanks in advance

If you're not interested in the full exo-cage style racks then there are a few options.

The Rhino Rack Backbone system would give you what you want......it consists of some bracing that fits inside the hard top that then accepts Rhino Rack bars/racks. When removed there are only the fixing locations still visible on the outside. It can't be used with soft tops though.

AEV and Front Runner both do racks that bracket through the top of the hard top to then accept a flat rack. They would both be suitable as well.

Otherwise you're limited to drilling rails into the top of the hard top and attaching bars but I'd not do that personally as the hard top isn't structural enough by itself. I think it's only rated to 30Kg without the internal bracing/brackets of the ones I mentioned above.

If you're going to mount roof top tents, roof bars attached to hardtop are out of the question already. None of those has the load rating strong enough for roof top tent.
Is your JK 4 door or 2 door?!
If 4 door, you'll have choice of front runner and AEV. AEV rack can use Rhino accessories.
If 2 door, I think your only choice would be front runner if Rhino style rack is what you want.

One thing thou, neither of those are easy to come off if not in use and both of them required cutting of hardtop as they are attached to roll bars.

Hi guys my jk is a 4 door rubicon. It's actually on order haven't recived as yet but I'm trying to get all the bits before it arrives. I don't like the full cage racks. I want to be able to take rack off when the camper is off.i want to be able to open the freedom top without a cage on top

I'm in similar situation as you actually. I don't want to use full cage racks and I want the rack to be able to hold a roof top tent up.
I'll probably go for the full length front runner rack.

If you really want a removable rack, you have a choice of defender roof rack mounting kit and rhino rack mounting system. Neither of those will be strong enough to hold roof top tent thou and you'll need the hardtop on for these to work.

AEV rack also need the hardtop to work.
Front runner rack can use with hardtop or no top.

If you planning to have soft top on later and want a rack, cage racks are the only one that will work.

I looked at these style set-ups not too long ago and from memory I don't think those racks that aren't full length had a suitable load capacity for a RTT. I thought they were all restricted to 100kg or so.

The Gobi / Uneek racks etc have a stationary rating of like 300kg which would be fine for a RTT.. They also fold backwards so that you can take off the hard top whilst they are installed.

Only problem is the cost of them. In my mind anyway.

ALso, no drilling required on them as opposed to the other racks mentioned.

I use the MBRP roof rack.
Takes a heavy load as the load bearing is on the body.
Also, it takes only 10 mins to remove it with the hardtop.
It is also fitted with threaded holes and flange brackets to take things like platforms, baskets and roof top tent.
I carry fuel, tyres, camping gear and all sorts of things on mine, no problems.
