Dangers of snorkles.....over confident, complacent perhaps?

V8 Cruiser in a seemingly benign creek near Sofala,NSW( with a snorkle )

Always check the crossing by walking it unless there are salties...

Yeah, I'll run with that. I was considered a trendsetter back in the seventies when I fitted them on my Landcruisers.
They're not just for water you know.
Also, mining have been using them for about 40 yrs.

I only fitted one on mine because the beach I frequent has a tidal lagoon that you have to cross depending on the tide. It can also get very dusty in the National Park near where I live during Summer.

It's cheap insurance.

My AEV, on the JK was fitted by the dealer on delivery by mistake.

It was supposed to go on another Jeep but was put on mine. Jeep Parramatta however told me to keep it as was cheaper for them to buy another one for the poor bloke. WIN! ..... Then, I heard that the sales person got fired due to more stuff ups.

A lot of snorkels are purchased for clean air. Have you ever looked under the wheel arch where most jap 4x4 have their intake located? Some Patrols have a lump of foam near the intake and these come out like a lump of bull dust.
Have seen a new farm ute with less than 5000 klm and the bottom of the air cleaner box contained several pieces of plant matter the size of a 20 cent piece. Snorkel extend air cleaner element significantly in this instance.
I agree with others about water crossings and snorkels.
My decision to purchase a snorkel would be for clean air first and water crossings second DEPENDING where the air intake is.

Snorkels aren't just about water crossings; they significantly extend air filter life. I get at least 3 times the life out of my air filters since fitting the snorkel, which at about $50 each, has paid the snorkel off many times over. Look as any prime-mover, they are fitted with snorkels, not for water crossings, but to extend air filter life
