Make sure you can loosen the filler plug before you loosen the drain plug. Always.

Hey all. About to do the fluid change on the transmission and noted there is a fluid leak from the rear seal on the transfer case. The case is the New Process Gear 231-J backed onto the NV3550 box. Attached image shows the trail left by the leak. Anyone got any details and a lead on where to get a new seal, apart from the dealership that is? Thanks.
EDIT; Just checked Rock Auto and could go that way but keen to get hold of a seal quickly if possible.

If that is the transfer case used in the diesel, best you go & look at the XJ diesel parts sticky. I have posted about the seal. When I replaced mine, I had 2 choices. I purchased both & fitted the heavier duty one. I got them from a local bearing shop.
If its not the same case, best you get your calipers out & measure the outer & inner diameters (housing & slip yoke shaft) & go see a bearing shop.

Thanks Layback. Looking online yesterday I saw a few different seals all supposedly to fit the NP231 J which doesn't make it easy. And yes it is the diesel. I'll check out the XJ sticky. Can I ask which bearing shop you got yours from?

Part number obtained for the rear output seal is 05072307AA. Dealer has them for $132. Just bought it from Rock Auto for $29.68USD delivered. So say $42AUD.
Layback, the size seems quite different to the XJ seal with outside diameter of 84.4mm, inside of 34.7mm and depth of 12.59mm. I note the XJ has a longer rear retainer on the case than the KJ does.

Just did my fluid change for the gearbox. Very easy to do. Made up my own fluid "pump" using an old water bottle and some 6mm plastic hose which I also used for a brake bleed. Took around 30min all up and the 2 quarts was spot on for the fill with around 100ml left over. Already noticed that second gear is easier to get into so happy so far.
