It is a hall effect sensor and to test its output really requires a scope. You can check it is receiving the control voltage of 5v and is earthed with a multimeter but to read the square wave output when cranking needs a scope output.

Thanks...

what i could find on youtube helped....seems the sensor is OK....also, yes, Im getting 5 volts.....youtube vid also mentioned ..."if getting a spark at the coil/plugs, CPS is not at fault...

anyway....after checking some other sensors and disconnecting the PCM...put all back together and she started...good, but annoying as I didnt find a culprit.

CPS failure is commonly random in nature sometimes working fine for weeks then suddenly failing for a few hours then unexpectedly start working again.

Rockauto (USA) is your best bet.

Only go Mopar for the CPS. Part number 56026921, but also make sure its Mopar as the Chinese use this part number too.
Ive got some pics up on my VSB14 thread on the XJ page showing the difference in magnet power of non genuine v genuine. I had an NTK expensive non-genuine CPS and the magnet could barely hold a small bolt. My Mopar one could hold a 1kg chunk of steel.
I in fact went even further and found a Mopar CPS that was made in USA.
The new Mopar ones are made in Mexico.

Anyway, you may have to search around a while. I checked RockAuto and they have temporarily sold out.
Ebay USA has a couple but not sure if they post to AU

Don't be tempted to buy anything except Mopar as they are all junk and will let you down. In fact, with all sensors, do research and only buy the best quality.
