The front end is now complete, filled with oil and took her for a spin with no weird noises, felt the temperature of the cover and compared it with the rear and there the same, drained the oil and it looked good so the front was a success. Now onto the rear!

I got my open carrier I bought ages ago and installed the spartan locker, this is where I ran into trouble. There was way too muck slop in the locker, about 6mm so I've come to the conclusion I've got the wrong carrier. The opening were the spider gears sit is too wide. I've checked the part numbers on the locker and it says it's for a dana 44 30 spline so it's right. So onto plan B

I'm going to rebuild my stock lsd with some aggressive clutch packs and purchase some thick cut gears. I've done the research and rebuilding the lsd looks pretty easy, I'll do a write up on it aswell cause there's probably a lot of people who done want to spend the 1000's of dollars on a locker. The parts to rebuild the lsd can be found on rockauto for around a 100 bucks.

If anyone is interested the locker is for sale now for 300 and the superior 4.1 r&p for 250. Hopefully I can get this install going again soon

The track bar mount helped to position it, and just turn the spreading nut enough to get the dowel pins (center bolts with heads cut off) to hold it in place. If I'd had trouble with it staying there I'd have used a bolt in one of the diff cover holes to hold a piece of flat bar across the spreader to keep it in place. The picture may have been taken after the dial indicator was removed before the carrier went in.

Once I was sure it wouldn't drop out I set up the dial indicator gauge using one of the diff cover holes to mount it solidly. I didn't trust the magnetic mount not to move. I spread the case somewhere between 10-15 thou don't remember now, but it was more than the preload shims that were added at the final fit.

Another change of plans, I ended up buying a power lock lsd, there supposed to be one of the best lsd's on the market so while I'm waiting for that to arrive I've started stripping down the rear diff, same process as the front just make sure ya take note what order all the parts are in, the dana 44 rear if different to the front as there's no inner oil slinger and no crush sleeve, pinion pre load is with shims.

The power track turned up today so I can get back to work, it's bloody heavy, twice the weight of the trac lock

Here are some torque values that you will need.
Assembly Specifications:
* Cover Bolt Ft. Lbs. 30-40
* Pinion Brg. Preload In. Lbs 20-40
* Pinion Nut Ft. Lbs. 200-220
* Ring Gear Backlash .005-.008
* Ring Gear Bolt to case Ft. Lbs. 45-60
* Side Brg. Caps Ft. Lbs. 70-90

I pressed the bearings off the power lock and started this morning putting the pinion in, went to start the carrier and the kit I bought have the wrong shims, so looks like it won't be able to be finished till next week now, the shim inside diameter is alittle small, I thought about die grinding alittle off but I think I'll just get some new shims
