WG Wheels

A quick question. I’m thinking of getting a set of 17” bead lock wheels for the WG and would like to hear people’s recommendations.

I’d put MT’s on them if I decide to go down that road.

Hey Doug,

I have 17" Trailready World series bead locks on mine but they're on a second set...NOT legal. I only use them occasionally for the harder stuff. Pressures are down to single digit.

For daily use I have highway tyres on steel rims.

Fun police, please chillax and stay away.

Thanks, I should have mentioned that for daily use I have a set of OE alloys that will get new HT’s.

Am I allowed to know why yours are “outside of spec”? Tell me in a PM if you prefer. I’ll be fitting a set of flares probably so they can be a bit wider than the body and be ok.

Hi Doug,

I've never understood why beadlocks are not legal even in the USA. Discussion focused on structural integrity of the rims and the inability to balance the tyre/rim setup...yet they are used in tough off road conditions.

So. straight answer is...dunno mate.

Some structural engineer here might shed a light on it.

Beadlocks are legal as long as they are done correct(at least a couple years ago they were), you can only have one weld going around the rim, which means that most bead locks are illegal as they need an additional ring welded to the rim. But most alloy rims are molded to include it, but might not be adr approved still.
This was quite awhile ago in vic, so thing might have changed

Ahh, now that is both interesting and confusing as there are OEM steel wheels with 2 welds.

If the cops want to defect you, they will anyway. The more important question is whether you will be covered by insurance.
