The N23 was to rectify a problem, where the transfer case could go into neutral, thereby letting the car roll off. As usual the issue was raised in the U.S, where it seems everyone wants to sue for money.
Now the patch actually works, it is probably your choice whether to get it done or not, as Hanna said it was a long and painful process before the fix came.

Well it works fine, it has never rolled away and off the edge of a cliff and i do value my jeep even if its giving me grief at the moment.

I spent a fair bit of time reading that N23 thread
The pain, angst, frustration from owners is obvious everywhere
As is the complete lack of any meaningful support from FCA
Mines booked in for Friday for final reprogramming

Yep, absolutely!

I am lucky in that my Commander CRD had both recalls before I bought it and I have never had a problem, however I have just been waiting for that one day....

Would prefer one that has never been molested by FCA.

So the air-con is working fine now
Three leaks were; schrader valve, receiver/drier, & evaporator.
According to FCA the the entire hose needs raplacing to rectify faculty schrader valve.
So thanks to Ian at Aitkenvale Auto & Dyno for persevering until they found a suitable valve.


Managed to source a receiver/drier from Spectra Refrigeration for $20.


The hole in the evaporator was right where the leaf litter had accumulated

Before reassembling the HVAC housing there were a couple of issues I wanted to address.
1. That damn loud noise when the fan is on max
2. Annoying stream of cold air directed straight at my foot regardless of the chosen air stream outlet

So I've thrown these in the bin ...


Those white diffusers sit inside the top half of the HVAC housing.
Now it's quiet and the air still comes out. Bonus
Removing the foot vents just means the air isn't directed straight at my left ankle.
Rather is wafts out from behind the centre console.

If you're ever looking for the HVAC drain it is located in the oval opening in the floor pan.
It's practically next to your left foot.
There are no rubber drain hoses, it simply drips onto the top of the transmission.

Ordered a Cabin Air Filter Kit through local dealer
RHD PN: 82208300 Only cost $40 Thought that was OK.
Parts interpreter tells me there are four left in FCA's Melbourne Warehouse.
So any dealer should be able to order you one



Remove the existing baffle.


Just got to be careful, as the middle pins have expanding prongs.
If you snap these off they will fall directly into the fan.
So put the air controls on recirculate and use a little flat blade screwdriver to pry them vertically and jiggle the panel around.


The new filter housing has one clip that needs sliding on and two plastic push pins


Should be all good now. Fingers crossed
