Default CRD Air Filter

I know mention has been made of the importance of regular replacement of the air filter element on the CRDs but what sort of mileage do you guys get out of yours?

I've had my current one in for a bit over 5000kms and its totally stuffed. I haven't done THAT much dirt road driving but it just seems to clog up with this black crap and I actually notice a quite substantial drop in performance.

hard to say a definite mileage, I just replace mine when it "looks" full. I normally replace mine b4 10K Km, but that was before the snork fit. Should be less often now. Think the manual says every 20k Km.

Do you guys use genuine Jeep ones?
Or just a Ryco equivalent?

Jeep ones, about $35.00 how much are the Ryco? The guys in the states talk about some other type with longer/thicker material allowing more crap to be caught with better filtration (smaller holes) but as it is larger it allows the same/better flow rate.

yeah I use the Jeep one. Wasn't aware that there was a Ryco one.

I was even thinking about trying to fit one of those "snorkel socks" over the end of the intake behind the light just to reduce the effect of water spray. Any thoughts on the practicality of that? Don't really want to go the whole hog of fitting a snorkel...
