Default First 4x4 Experiance in the jeep!

Hey Guys,

Just got myself a 99 Jeep Cherokee Sport.
Took it out for the first time 4x4ing up at labertouch, had a awesome day doing some of the easier tracks just to learn my car. then i start to notice a weird smell. It smelt like a clutch (strange cos my car is an auto) (yes an auto it was a trade in at work so i had no choice) so i stopped only to find my front left hand caliper had sezied!!!! (OH NOE). didnt have any really helpful tools with me so i took the wheel off and pryed the pads off the disk then drove home (90kms) with no brakes... woahhhh what a challenge! i did it but wow i never want to have todo that again!. so yeah was a good day. just thought i would share that random peice of info with you guys!.
have a nice night!

Hey Menzies,

Great to see you out and about in the XJ. BUgger the caliper siezing!!! It's just one of those things I think you can get with any 4x4 on the trails.
You have to remember that out on the trails that your Jeep is using every piece of equipment it has on full tilt!!!!! Also remember you XJ is now 13yrs old and you have to expect the odd failure here and there. My 2000 Tj had the same prob every so often on the trails, again it's just one of those things.
The Victorian mud can do weird and wonderful things to Jeeps ( and any other 4x4 ) at the best of times, so just put it under your hat and move on.
Maybe have a look at joining one of the VIC Jeep clubs and then you can go out with other peeps that can help you along the way.
