Antennas are typically pre-tuned, so you will probably be OK. It is always good to check the SWR as it lets you know if there is a fault or suboptimal antenna placement.

Thanks guys.

Looks like my SWR meter is out of date.

Is this normally practiced to tune the antenna/radio combos to the best SWR or shops generally stick the antennas on the bullbars without worrying to much about the ratios?

Question to myself. Show I get a proper SWR meter?

Firstly, UHF antennas come pre-tuned unlike the old 27MHz antennas but the point of the original post was you got different results in different orientations so there seems to be an issue.
While your meter is wrong for the application it still gives a comparison.

Default Tuning CB radio antenna

Ok. I missed that point somewhat.

I will see if I can chase the connectivity issue at the base of the antenna and if not will look for a replacement options.

Could be a bad RF ground plane (nudge bar not grounded to the vehicle body)
Vertical antennas are unbalanced - the metal work of the vehicle body acts as the other half of the antenna (RF return path). The coax centre is connected to the antenna whip the coax shield is connected to the antenna mounting clamp.

The low position of the antenna on the nudge bar may give you some reduced power when detecting signals from anywhere but in front of your vehicle, as that roof rack and spare tyre up top are taking up some space, and the roof of the car will generate some blockage to the clear signal. I would recommend a short flexible antenna centrally mounted to the front (or back) of the roof rack if possible, as it will provide the best RF signal long term.

If you must keep the antenna on the bar, raise it to the top hoop and attach behind the hoop as I understand in front of the hoop creates a pedestrian hazard and may make the vehicle unroadworthy temporarily.
