The fact that it says "No BUS" probably answers the question - there is a fault on the CAN BUS network. All the little computers in the jeep (about 20) communicate with each other via a serial BUS network called Controller Area Network BUS (CAN BUS). If, for example, the 2 wires were pulled out of the ignition/key module, then the engine module would not get the command to shutdown. The CAN BUS has one master (the TIPM) and everything else is a slave. So, could be a faulty TIPM. If you're not getting dash lights, headlight not working? windows don't work? things like this, that would indicate that the entire network is down and that the problem is with the master.

Thank you everyone for the replies and advice.

After disconnecting the battery over night and cleaning the terminals that had noticeable corrosion everything seems back to normal. I cleared the faults and used the same key without issues.

Could it be as simple as battery terminal corrosion? I went through and made sure all electrical connections were tight, all relays and fuses were seated properly. I drove the Jeep for 100 miles yesterday and not a single problem? Fingers crossed I make it back home that way as this time I wont have someone travelling behind me.

Thanks again everyone.

After doing some Google it seems like it could be any number of things, and probably not a bad idea to bookmark this page for Hayesio's reply as if it happens again, that would be a good place to go.

JK's have electrical gremlins. They manifest from the aether and then cause havoc and then disappear back into the void before you can track down the bastards.

For example, I have a noFUSE error and my M13 fuse blows out of the blue for a week and then stops for a month, then off she goes again. I along with my electric engineer shop have been tracking it for 2 years and we just can't find it. I love my JK but it makes me miss the lack of electrics in my old TJ's and XJ!

A lot of trouble starts with the battery, however, so it is usually my step one. Check terminals, charge, connections, reset, etc. Glad you are getting some results from a terminal clean, and good luck getting home! Let us know if you make it or if we should start sending search parties...

Quite possibly. There are several posts on here detailing how their Jeeps have done some really weird things only to trace it back to a bad earth.

Hopefully that's all the issue is, and you can get back to enjoying the drive.
