Default Tube guards O.K.!!!

Allright.. after one unsuccessful attempt, cos i was using the wrong size tube in the $100 bender, i managed to fabricate a pair of tube guards with a 4 inch built in steel flare!!
I have written down all the steps and measurements and the second guard worked out exactly the same as the first.I used 25mm nom.(32mm outside diam) by 3 mm thick pipe and bent it to a plan and sizes that sort of followed the shape of the original guard but comes right back almost to nothing at the firewall and right up to the top of the guard. Then i unpicked the inner guard from the outer with a flat screwdriver and welded the inner piece to my tube frame and left it short at the front, where i tacked in a filler piece of steel to make up the 100mm difference. The outer guard is pretty much cut to only leave about 20mm outside the bonnet line and the vertical section at the rear is trimmed to the tube.I made a cardboard template for the 1.2mm thick sheet for the top of the guard and tacked it in with the mig. The tube frame is held together inside the original guard with a piece of 40x40mm angle that gets bolted thru original holes and the front has a piece of 65mm flat that gets bent to the grill shape and has a little corner brace and is this wide to take the 100mm infill of the inner guard.
The steel is tack welded inside and out so as not to distort it and then Sikkaflexed before painting..
cheers
steve

Default update on the eight..

Started putting more stuff together while im waiting for the diff doctor to put the detroit in the rear and is also putting the ratios in the front hi pinion 9 inch..Got the rims and tyres fitted up and got the bloke to put some balancing powder in the tyres and glued the tyres to the rims with excavator tyre glue....see how that goes... but i havent yet got the beadlock thing sorted so these rims will do for now.
bolted up the painted tube guards i made to see how they would fit and will remove them to put the chev in shortly..The front diff is still the old dana 30 narrow track to roll it around on but i had to see how it would look with the tyres etc..The front diff i have is wide track and im running 2 inch spacers each side to match the rear cut down f100 9 inch. so it should look heaps better with about another 6 inches in the track..Made up a set of rock rails that will go on once the front guards are finally put on.
starting to get somewhere at last..
cheers
