Default Faulty Seat Belt Stalks

Hi All,

I am replacing some interior parts on my 2006 Jeep Cherokee KJ 3.7L because the previous owner's dog chewed a few things.

I replaced the drivers side seat belt stalk (the female end) and the car's no-seat-belt chime keeps going off with the no-seat-belt light also being lit on the dash. The pigtail connector is definitely seated properly into the harness connector, and this issue happened with two different seat belt stalks (because I'm replacing the passenger side too). I spoke with my normal mechanic and he said it could be because the internal wiring in the stalks is faulty or because the stalks I got from the wreckers are from a different model Jeep? I doubt that 2 different stalks would have faulty wiring and I've never heard of different model stalks having this issue but I'm also not a mechanic. If I unplug the pigtail from the harness the issue stops but I want everything to be connected and in pristine condition instead of driving around with the plugs not connected. Can anyone confirm what the issue is and how to fix it?

Any help is greatly appreciated

I tried this and it chimed at the end but still doesn't stop the chime while I drive. I reckon I'll have to buy new stalks

If the seat belt switch works the same way as in older Jeeps, the switch disconnects when the belt is plugged in.

If it does disconnect when the belt is fastened, you could just leave the belt stalks unplugged. That would mean the cluster only sees a fastened seat belt.

If the chime still sounds with the belt fastened, either the switch should be connected with the belt fastened, or the seat belt sense wire is shorted to ground. You could use an ohm-meter to see how the switch operates when the belt is fastened.
