Default Fuel for 2002 Overland

I'm sure this would have been covered before but I couldnt find anything on it. Sorry if so.

For those with the HO motor what fuel do you use.?

Its meant to run on super, but super in the US is 91 I believe.

I run it on 95 & then on 91 & I cant tell any difference.

cheers

I don't have the HO, so can't give real life experience.

However, just be careful when comparing RON's between American and Australian fuels as American ratings are lower in number. i. e. USA 91 RON is equivalent to our 95 RON:

http:// http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Octane_rating

You will probably find that the 91 RON will be fine for normal driving as the anti-knock sensor will retard the timing enough to prevent detonation, however if you are pushing it hard or towing something heavy, it's probably best to stick to 95 RON to be safe. It's really all about preventing detonation, so if you can't hear any pinging then you are pretty safe.

If you have a Superchips tuner you can program it for a lower octane rating with quite decent results from what I have read.

Ok thanks for that, I didnt realise US 91 was the same as our 95, think i'll just stick to 95.

Actually the US use average between MON motor octane number and RON which is different rating but works out about 2 or 3 points higher. So if it says 91 then you need about 93 to 94 equivalent but the next up is 95. As mentioned its mostly only when working motor hard particularly at low revs.

Yes you're 100% correct Turbo - I was really just trying to point out that our 91 is not equivalent to that of the USA and if you wanted to meet it you had to step up to the next standard octane rating in Australia, which is 95 RON. Not sure, but I think there was one service station that was offering 94 RON? BP?

Probably also why many can run our 91 RON without too many issues as it is only 2-3 points lower rather than the full 4.

I use 95 and BP Premium in my HO. BP premium works great for long distant driving.
