Default Roof Racks on a budget!

Hi All

Just looking for some suggestions in types of roof racks to suit a side awning or mounting options for a WK with factory rails. This would be a temporary solution as when the $$ permit I’d like to settle on the OR Animal roof rail/ plank. Thanks again!

My awning brackets are just bolted to the factory rails using the standard rack bolts, remove end caps drill a hole in rubber insert for bolt, just need to measure it all properly...... I could get a pic of the mounting if you like but just used the standard L bracket.

Thanks Drover, an up close pic would be great if you could. Out of curiosity how wide is your awning? I’ve gone for the kings 2.5x2.5, thinking it maybe too wide on the Jeep? Cheers.

I’ve also looked at Kings awnings, and I’m thinking that 2.5m is a bit wide. I think I’ll get the 2m. It looks better size wise.

Here we go mate, mine is 2m, the rear being as far back as possible without fouling the rear door, so a 2.5m job would be about level with the front of the door mirror, which is a long bit of unsupported over hang and I have my rails a far apart as possible......
I have a cheapy flat rack but I only fit it when on the road, its a pain for just running around the place empty as a bit of wind noise, have cut most out and another mod should do it.....

Front of awning..

Rear view gives about 20mm clearance

Rack mount with bugs....

Thanks Drover, great pics. Definitely 2m is the way to go, I should’ve posted before making the purchase. [emoji31]

With possibly a length of angle of say 30mm x 3mm attached to the awning frame I reckon it would give it the support and stop any vibration, a full size rack of course would do it but hell they are an expensive bit of kit for carrying gear to burn more fuel.....
