Default 8 speed auto oil change

I know you can drop the pan and change the oil but you only get about 4.5 litres out of the 8 litres.
Has anyone done a full transmission flush on one of these 8 speed boxes and any thoughts on doing it?

8HP70 - If you follow the manual its just drain from plug, drop pan but let it drain for a while, you can actually hear it chugging air as it drains with pan removed and you get a few extra litres out of it, then replace pan and refill , run engine and work gears in a certain sequence till oil reaches around 40c then recheck level with engine running, once correct level shut down and pack up.......no specific full drain scenario given ....... other than when its been on the bench to get some oil in it......

One thing is DO NOT try to pressure flush this gear box.....

This link gives the best description I have come across on what to do, no BS jabbering like on U tube stuff... It may be on a BMW but its same same...https://blog.fcpeuro.com/how-to-chan...d-transmission

I have managed near 6 lts on one change when I left it gurgling away while I cleaned up my usual mess.... I honestly don't think you can get anymore out of it as that would mean you would have to run it with a dry TC while it filled up...

Its Page 8844 of the manual.

great advice as usual.
As your aware, looking for a new mechanic and was going to finish off doing the fluids on my “new” jeep.
I did the rear diff oil but the transfer case and front diff are a bit tight room wise under the car so thought while getting the front diff and tc done they might as well do the auto fluid to.
Only issue, i only bought 5 lutres of lifeguard8 oil!
Btw, how is that Nulon transmission oil going in yours?

The Nulon has been good, no dramas towing, heavy pedal down the highway or tootling around town hot or cold ......

With just a dump and pan replacement 5 lts should normally be enough BUT the blokes will need to be aware of how to do a ZF 8HP70, the engine needs to be run at a certain RPM and gears selected or the TC won't fill and the level won't be right.... I would only use a Tranny Shop not a general spanner shop and one that has BMW's and other ZF vehicles as its clients.... if they try to pressure flush it you may be in all sorts of trouble from reports....

I got 4 x 2.4m x 50mm pine garden sleepers, batten screwed 2 each together then chain sawed in half at 45 deg angle, so I had 4 nice ramps 100mm high, couple of blocks on the blunt end and bingo a nice set of ramps to allow me underneath to work..... thinking of adding another plank as I need an extra 50mm so I can roll over, Jeep seems to be getting lower each time.

Lucky me...when in Perth in a couple of weeks I am getting the tranny oil changed and serviced by my brother who just happens to own a tranny shop. Even though it was allegedly done 30,000 k's ago...he knows his way around these things having been in the transmission business for over 40 years now, so it will done right at the right price...
