Default Should I buy this Jeep renegade?!

I'm currently looking at a 2003 3.7L jeep cherokee KJ

We have agreed a price of $5500 including service

it has 240,000km on the clock

It makes a knocking noise from the back even when ideling ?

It's not letting me add photos, it has a bull bar and snorkle installed. I'm just worried it has too many miles!

I have more miles on my 04 still runs great. The knock concerns me though might be a shagged engine.

Dunno bout others but to me $5500 for a 2003 v6 240k povo seams too much to pay, but anyways onto more pressing things

Are you mechanically minded and know how to diagnose engine noises. If you know a bit about how to pick noises then dig deeper, could be a number of things from big end to engine mounts to flex plate (if it's an auto)

If not then get your local auto club (RAC or what ever) or a local garage/repairer to inspect the car before laying down your money. Cost a little money but might be good money spent.

Last choice will be to get someone you know that knows car/4wd's to take a look and give an honest 2nd opinion. I've been in the trade for over 30 years and I still take mates with me when buying 2nd hand because they have no ties to what I'm looking at and can think with thier head instead of their heart.

I agree with ^^above^^

I know it seems like a pain and why pay 100 bucks or more for an inspection - well, it is an older vehicle and you don't know who has done what to what, no matter what the person selling it says. 100 dollarydoo's now could save you thousands later if the engine is done and dusted.

I can't comment on the price as I have never shopped around for what you're talking about, but as a used car buyer - knocking sounds are rarely just a character feature on a car.

Sounds bad to me, and wayover priced for a petrol model with that many kms. The knocking is bad news, might be bad bearings or a connecting rod = expensive, new engine type territory. It is actually cheaper to buy a new crate engine than get some one to rebuild it. Avoid it.

Default Cheers people

Left that alone after your comments!

Looked at same model and age through private seller. Only 180,000 on the clock and he's letting me take it for an inspection on Monday! Hopefully all is good because the car is amazing and I feel like a kid at Christmas haha!
