What Jeep do I drive?: XJ
Default Throttle body/ TPS assembly problems

So I decided to strip down the throttle body and give it all a good clean. Managed to get the actual throttle body off and all sensors except TPS off and disconnected and all now nice and shiny and clean.

I now can't get the throttle body reassembled. The position of the TPS is preventing the spindle part that the plate goes on from slotting in.

No matter what I try I can't get it back in. Im guessing the TPS needs to be off to reassemble?

One of the torx screws is stripped and pretty much all the other screws seem to have been fukn glued in!

So am now stuck with an even more undeliverable vehicle until I can solve this.

I'm about 30 seconds from just mashing the TPS off with a hammer... Suggestions please?

can you cut slots in the torx screws with a hacksaw or dremel and use a large flat tip screwdriver?

Yeah have it in a vice now and have hacksaw ready. I'm guessing I should be able to source replacement bolts at the bolt place or something.

Seems a bit optimistic by jeep to loctite all these flaky sensors in place...

Got the sensor off. Bolt head shattered when I tried to turn with a screwdriver so I ended up cutting the head off. Sensor pulls off.

Now I have to get the rest of the (glued in!) bolt out of the TB.

I've already had another one for the IAC snap off and had to be drilled out.

Anyone got a spare TB for a 99? This one might end up unusable or unfindable when I hurl it into the paddock opposite.

I have one from a 96 that will be the same (has the three sensors on it rather than two) that i took off when i put a bored throttle body on. I was going to bore this one out and sell it, but you are welcome to it as is.

Just needs a clean (ironic as that is where your trouble started.) but other than ithat it works fine. Just clean it without taking it apart or something.

You will still need to source bolts as mine went back in to bolt down the new body.

I couldn't get the bolt from the TPS out, it sheared when I had it in the vice trying to remove. I've just cut it off about 3mm from the face.

I managed to get it all reassembled once I had the TPS off, pretty easy to then stick this on with a little twist. Have enough of 1 bolt to stop it spinning and the other one keeps it tight and airtight enough.

Got it started and it's running really smooth now! Well, smoother.

So yeah, I should replace the TB and get some new bolts for the TPS too.

Puk, I'll send u a pm.
