Excuse my ignorance. Is SA South Australia or South Africa. I know there's been heaps on her about lockers from South Africa for the Dana's.

Also, anyone have an opinion on getting one if you have Quadra Drive?

Hey pmac, SA is South Aust... this is their website: http://www.4wdsystems.com.au/

As far as Quadra-Drive is concerned, you'd have to first get a 'open carrier', or a non-lsd diff centre (i.e. non vari-lok or trac-lok) and axles from another WJ/WG as the locker will only fit into the open carrier (which most Quadra-Trac 2 4wd systems are), unless they were 'optioned' up when ordered from the dealer with a Trac-Lok lsd in the rear.

Having a 'locked' rear axle is probably better than what Quadra-Drive can offer on the rear axle unless your Quadra-Drive system actually does was Jeep advertised it would do in that it actually locks up when wheel spin on the same axle is sensed...? But probably not worth the trouble of switching carriers and axles.

With my rear locker now I can pretty much 'crawl' through everything that I used to have to take a run up, or have excessive wheel spin to try to keep the momentum, it does everything with ease compared to before. Whereas with Quadra-Drive I imagine you would still need a small amount of wheelspin before the Vari-Loks would try and do their job.

Turismo,

That is great news...

Do you think the Wj still would go fine as a DD with one of these installed?

Good at 110Kms on the highway, in the wet?

Cheers
Chumby

Hey Chumby,

I reckon it is fine as a DD, really depends on your tolerance level for a slight clicking (ratcheting sound) when turning and the slight chirp on tight corners. Like I said only on real tight stuff do you notice the locker in the rear, so if you park in undercover carparks for work for example it might get annoying, but other than that driving on the street is absolutley fine. No real side affects. The faster you go the less the locker is noticable, but pretty much anything over 40km's and you won't be able to hear the clicking or feel it.

I do suspect however that tyre wear will increase slightly, which is also what Steve T mentioned he has experienced with his Lokka.

Hey turbo,

I always had open carriers. I was one of the unlucky (or maybe I was lucky?) people who got a Grand Cherokee Limited withourt Quadra-Drive. So with Quadra-Trac 2 and open diffs front and rear it was begging for the locker... Now it handles offroad like a real 4wd
