Have been through this recently, easy to replace them yourself, should only be around 200 or so for both joints delivered and it's a 15 min job each end taking your time

Before you buy stuff and give away money, as you've already taken your shaft out, just spent some time to lubricate it thoroughly.
If that, will not make any difference, then you can go to the next case senario.

I read this thread a few days ago and something just occured to me - are the front as rear wheels/tyres the same diameters?

If they are different by as little as 3/8" then it can cause problems. I recall reading this on the internet somewhere, so it must be true. Still, worth looking before you start throwing parts and money at it.

The jeep being a full-time 4x4 has a quadra-drive type coupling in the transfer case that allows a small differential of speeds between the front and rear driveshafts it allows for the phenomena that affects all 4x4's that is the front tyres even if they are the same diameter as the rear tyres, roll a different radius when steered and therefore the front axle must necessarily turn at a slight different speed to the rear axle the cornering or taking bends.

The problem of mismatching tyre diameters from front to rear really only affects the AWD vehicles (except subaru's) that have a lightweight non full-time 4 wheel drive train, as the mismatch in diameter is detected on these cars as wheel spin and the AWD is electronically engaged this causes the system to run full-time 4wd on the road for which it is not designed or durable enough. Most AWD's are really front wheel drive cars with the ability to engage the rear wheels as necessary.

good point. but im tipping no amount of grease will take up the slack in the coupling. it's fenakerd.

I could weld 'em like I do with ball joints.

You can get replacement rzeppa's from rockauto in the states.
If you replace with uni's know what needs to be done *sigh*. Pinion yoke, transfer case yoke, driveshaft.

Would it really be worth it for a car that's not lifted high?
