Thanks for your replies guys!!

Clarky,
I will give the MANN filter a go!! Then try an oil change also if that doesn't fix it. The oil I used is MB 229.5 approved, I believe the MB229.51 is for the models with a DPF, my WH doesn't have a DPF. I am also currently using CEM's AW10 its awesome stuff I must say!!

Bloke,
My WH has 235,000k's on the clock and I have disabled the EGR about 15,000k's ago.

roscoea26,
Does the FTC Decarbonizer work well? I also use CEM's CRD fuel enhancer every fill up and I also used there FOC flush every service (except the last change as I ran out) I also only fill up at BP or Caltex outlets using their ultimate or vortex premium diesel!

Hopefully the new oil filter will sort out the noise as I don't think its a big end as a big end would never go away!! Please correct me if i a wrong!! It may be lowering the oil pressure due to restricting the flow past the filter? Hopefully....

Thanks again for your replies fellas!!

MB 229.31 is the spec for the pre update Grands & Commanders to 2007. MB 229.51 came in later.
It is supposed to be backwards compatible but I have never trusted backwards compatible anything.

Thanks Clarky.

Do you recommend I change the oil to MB 229.31 Spec ASAP?

I will try to post a video of the noise so you can hear it for yourselves and hopefully the filter will fix it!!

Change filter first.

I run penrite or nulon mb 229.31 spec only and ryco filters never had a problem, not to say it's not a faulty filter. I once ran magnetech as a few ppl told me its safe and she got noisy and was down on power and up on fuel consumption, il never use it again.
my 07 has 220k on the clock and i only run her on castrol vortex, it seems little things have a fair effect on these engines if crap oil can make it run noisy and rough then i can notice a big difference with different diesels i think you will find it will be something small like a filter.

I run Penrite Diesel 10W-40 Extra10 as per MB recommendation for the OM642 without a DPF. Also I am in the tropics. If I were in Sydney or Vic I would likely run the Penrite Diesel 5W-40 Extra10.

[QUOTE=Dippas;1595978]Thanks for your replies guys!!

roscoea26,
Does the FTC Decarbonizer work well?

I guess taking the heads off is the is the only way to really tell. There's an example on their site as testament to how well it works.

The first time I used it was a couple of years ago the vehicle had 115,000 on the odometer. I used it at their first 20 hour rate 1:800 and after that at their 1:1600 rate for another 20 hours.

I do believe the vehicle showed signs of improved performance. With the use of premium diesel I give it a dose prior to each 5000k service. I use the CRD Enhancer every 3 rd or 4th tank refill
