I've now got a 2 Micron Raycor (150L per hour) fuel filter with a primer pump on it. My filter sits right under the fuel filler, so far 10,000km of dirt roads and I haven't had a problem.

Yeah I've noticed plenty of room back there as well if I get keen enough. On the boat primer it was from a diesel forum that I saw the idea. Can't remember which one might have been my Toyota days. Sounded like there was no issue with fuel type. Good thing about them is they are cheap and pretty easy to fit in a tight space given they are inline.

Further on the filter subject. Given Drover has been running the original filter with the non return valve bypassed with no issues, is it possible to actually ditch the factory filter all together and just run an aftermarket one instead. The original water sensor could maybe be bypassed with a resistor and the fuel line from the new filter could maybe go to the factory fitting at the pump after cutting the stupid hard plastic line off or maybe machine up a new stainless or ally fitting. Simplify the whole system completely, especially if we piss off that stupid bleeder.

I have thought about that myself many times, sorting out the fuel line was my biggest stumbling block, now the water sensor on mine works but if the wire isn't plugged in the light on the dash doesn't come on, as mine was unplugged for a week or so. Some dimwit didn't hook it up at a service. So replacing the fuel line is the sticky bit.
Could make a small fortune if a new robust fuel connection was found or made to replace the stupid plastic crap we have now.

Bloody temp hand brake cable failed, stuff it brick will do, Rockauto's cable should be in the mail box on Tuesday, thats better than ordering here.
PS: saw a bloody nice Ranger dual cab on the lot today. But the Jeep has the back seats missing and with some ply could do something wonderfull for travelling, though the No.1 offsider frowned when I mentioned it !!!!!!!

The only way to find out is to try, it would certainly make installation much easier as it is a way better location.
The one thing I like about the two filter config is you have some extra protection as it were if the primary filter fails or clogs.

Handbrake - Wife is usually enough.
Shed size = amount of stuff you don't need.
Fuel filter - The more the better.
Beer - if you home brew, you'll get fat.
Just my experience.
