IMO, anything with poles is a disaster.

the Oz Tent is just so easy and simple to pop up... it does literally take 30secs to put up (minus the tie-ing down stages)

sure there a little pricey - but then again, i'm the type who will pay for conveniance.

And that front area is big, great with no built in floor, so as you can just use shade screening on the floor, works a treat, doesnt matter how much crap yopu walk in, it just falls though and its gone. And Yes, fantastic to stay places.

I myself, love camping in it, it adds to the whole holiday, but, if I'm just going for a quick overnighter at the beach or something, I still use my tiny dome tent, its a simple space issue.

Once again, each has its own use, pros/cons. Its just a matter of what camping you want it for. Are you touring???? Up and down each day, or are you staying in a spot for a week???

Tents are just like the Jeep you drive, each best suited to its purpose/requirement.

+1 on the Australian canvas centre-pole designs. Blew KRudds's incentive $ on one last year and very happy with it. Have used ours in Tassie and the Flinders ranges so far with great success. Spend a weekend seasoning it in the backyard first to swell the canvas and test it out. Takes longer to scope out a campsite than to put it up, bang in four pegs (eight if hanging around for more than a night), erect your pole... ...and you're set. 99% waterproof and it ain't blowing over.

Two people from our group who went to Cape York in August (2009) had OzTents, they swore by them.

Watching them put their tents up and us still playing with our dome tent convinced me to purchase one for our next trip to the Kimberley in July.

They were having a cuppa before we were finished!

The OZ Tent is a bit of a bugger to transport in my opinon as it is so long, that was the opinion of my brother also.

He bought the 2.1 metre square Canvas Black Wolf and I bought the 2.7 Nylon Black wolf. Very quick to put up and a reasonably compact bag when transporting. The Canvas is the best option if you can afford it as it is more durable and doesnt need a fly top fittted unlike my polyester one.

Nemesis both RV3 (20Kg) and RV4 (22Kg) fold up into the same size bundle. The RV4 is 400 mm deeper and this makes a difference when camping. Most expensive is BCF, cheapest at the time I purchased ours in April 2010 was Tent World in Brisbane, they have 3 stores as well as an online presence.

Lengthwise both models are 2 metres and will strap to a roofrack.

Cheers -
