I would have gone with the ZJ conversion if you're using junkyard parts as they just need the caliper bracket holes modified to fit the XJ axle flange bolt pattern. Can't imagine you spent much on the ford parts though, lol.

This writeup is for a D44 but I'm pretty sure the only difference is that you don't need the spacer for the axle bearing retainer. I know how to do the ZJ conversion with a D44 but not exactly sure with the D35.

Not sure how much a ZJ rear axle goes for these days, it might be easier for you to buy one of those and weld on some new spring perches and shock mounts.

ok so will the ZJ brakes fit with stock 15 inch rims?

Yes as the stock rim on a ZJ is 15" and the same offset as a XJ also.
Hand brake cables wont hook up though but my write up on the EA brakes shows a cheap way of doing it when talking about the ZJ conversion.

ok im digging this one up again as i am looking at buy a D44 soon and wanting to change them to disc brakes, what one is best/easiest that requires least amount of modifying to the diff itself and the new brakes?


i already have some AU series 2 Brakes laying around are they suitable and easy, or is there a better option
