apart from I do not have a diesel , ill stick to petrol , (if I went back to diesel I would go back to early 90's cast iron head and non electric pumps) and apart I live in a country/rural area where the nearest part/decent part shop and or dealer is one hour and a half hours drive and when you have a child of 10 and live in a area where the only thought of people is "what can we get for nothing" and the "who the F#** are you attitude " and going through the : " only way is a drb111" line really makes me want to go and sit on the royal throne and pass out all the "its the only way movements" as far as I am concerned the DRB111 is the biggest heap of soldered wires and resisters that was ever made by some D%^K who must of been at the time on LSD and never came down , drop the machine , or leave it in the sun , or near water , or even just L@@K at the thing and expect it NOT TO WORK WELL.
i found software that runs on a WINDOWS platform and a ELM 327 cable and the software that does the jeep 2.7 diesel engine IS out there . the DM802 might not work on the diesel engine . who can say ? BUT i am not going out to spend money on a MERC engine and try just to see if it does. the website for Autel states all CHRYSLER from 2006 ~ 2003. and grand Cherokee 2005 on . but if you are wanting to EPROM the ECM/PCM to change the way the engine runs due to playing with the way a turbo is set up on a diesel or you have mis aligned the pump and or broken a seal or fed the wrong mix of conala oil down it and is too thick . and if you for some reason can not do research on what works like i had to (because no one was going to tell me what would work or not ) , then go spend money on a DRB111 tool waste heaps on getting the right cartridges and keep it away from sun, cool climate , heat , and don't knock it drop it or even look at it the wrong way.
OR go and wait weeks for the dealer who will swap parts, delay , and bleed your wallet dry. i had come across plenty on the diesel MERC ....BUT i am not after the diesel info , (the idea of 5 cyls puts me off in the first place , just like the audi fox) (or the dihatsu charade 3 cyls) what i was after a tool that would get into the dam airbag module and the TCM , i got it and now i am happy with that .
so all i can add is L@@K keep researching , i am quite sure there would be a ALT rather than buying a expensive tool like DRB
and that is my bleetnblurt on the matter.

Thanks Bleets, I have downloaded the software but I only have a bluetooth
ELM327 so not sure if it will work, only ever used it on an android. One big
advantage with this is fault code reset ability tho not going deep to the real
fault. One CRD I have here the owner was quoted $3000 to fix the trans,
would have been wasted $ because the shifter was the cause, looks like a
drink has been spilt over it. I am like you with your collection of petrol WJ/G's
I have 5 CRD cars here, I am fixing 3 wrecking a partly burnt 1 and a daily
driver approaching 300,000k's, have fun, if that's what you call it...

I do not like wireless connections , good way to have failure connections .
im a "direct connection " person. the thing with ELM327 is that they can be wired differently , (wires inside switched ) and they can have different chips inside.
I have three that all run differently to each other. one which has a switch on it for four different modes. and all run for there own software , they will not run on for different software. there a pain in the butt. I prefer to plug and go , so I don't have to muck around micro solder wires inside the connector to get the right module.
I hate screwing around trying to find a good ELM and software to suit , I prefer to have a decent tool that I can just plug in and go . not stuffing about swapping , configuring and fiddling about with .

Started my rear tire carrier, little harder getting the hinge right in terms of height and position, as you can see I had to bend in my main support to get it to tuck in correctly, as it hits the corner of the bumper, even with the corner cut off and the bend in, it still touches, will need some further weeks before the bumper will fit right on.

I also originally wanted the hinge to be in front of the tail light, however it just wouldn't work as the bumper would never of fit on, I wanted to do it that way for the neatness of not having to hack up the bumper.

Ran out of welding wire, so sorta stopped here for a bit, I'm using gassless welding wire which causes allot of spatter as I'm also out of gas haha, now I'm out of both!

Yeah I'm not really happy with how it fits on, I kinda put a hole in the wrong spot as I wanted it differently, so oh well, nothing some fibreglass can't fix though.
