I was curious so looked them up: http://www.489parts.com/products.html

FYI instructions to remove airbag is not so you can swap out a working one with a dummy; rather the process you need to go through with to remove steering wheel to replace a broken clockspring etc..

Toff, have you ever had one go off on you? If you have tell me how the broken nose was for you.
Thanks to those that gave info on removal procedures.
I want to retain the stock wheel for the c/control but use the jeep for more hunting purpose and am modding a purpose built bullbar/scrub bar type of setup.
I want the wheel to appear stock but without the explosive device sitting in my face.
I know there pretty reliable airbags but ive been sitting beside mates in different cars and when they have had an oopsy (hit something) the damn things gone off.
So basicly a "dummy airbag" as im calling it will be just the outer casing with no guts in it

Premature deployment of airbags isn't really a common issue for the Jeeps.
Especially given that they use a deceleration switch rather than crush cans.
Also if you are hunting you are more likely without a seat belt driving through grassed areas that could be hiding any untold surprises (stumps/wombat holes/etc) and if you came to a dead stop I would have thought an airbag would be a good thing since it should only deploy at an impact speed that is legitimately useful.

If its a pre update you should be able to leave it intact, just unscrew the arming bolt that's in it and it won't deploy (I'll hi light that this is my understanding of it and what is in the Haynes manual but as always seek independent advice )
