Default $80 Uni joint turns into 1500 axle...

Apparently the part has changed for my 08 rubi, so my front uni's that have movement now can't be replace because they no longer make that part, so the JEEP solution is two new axles! For $1500 each. So 3k to essentially fix 2 uni's plus labour.... Anyone what what they actually changed ? It must have been somewhere in 08 as they had to get the part number off my car to check wether just the uni's could be replaced. Would love to know if they just changed the size of the Uni or something silly that can be sourced aftermarket or if it is some major change to the whole axle assembly.

Also if I'm going to spend (well work) $3k any suggestions on a better replacement?

Cheers

Andrew

hey Andrew,
Are you able to change unis yourself?
If so, you should be able to remove the uni & take it to a bearing supply place & get a uni to fit.
I often see our local jeep dealer service manager in one of the bearing supply places near here getting all sorts of parts including unis for jeeps.
Some places will even have listings of suitable unis for different model jeeps.

Defiantly talk to Bill at Double black, if you are keen on upgrading tho have a look at RCV CV's. Bill sells them as we'll.

Wow, just did a bit of a google on this and you are not alone - Rubis up to 2011 are different to the 2012 and they have discontinued the parts for the earlier one. Apparently they are still available from Spicer, but not Mopar - so the Dealers not having access to a Mopar part cant supply anything.

If they cant do it without charging you for new axles then definately go elsewhere. To be honest I think you would actually have a case to get them done at no charge (axles that is). You should not have to buy whole new axles because the manufacturer decided to change design. Spare parts (referring to the unis) must be available for a minimum period which from memory is 7 years after the end of a particular model run.

It's because they are helpful and can often help you out but your post neither provided any input or helpful advice
