Default $2000 to Replace Ball Joints ?

Just been quoted in excess of $2000 AUD to replace upper & lower ball joints and drag links. Is this about right ? Mechanic says it will be 7-8hrs work, and is charging me $1100 for parts.....

Tad high. He must be a "big "mechanic if he has to bend you over that far..

I can't see it taking 8hrs to do four ball joints. Really ? It takes me about that in my back shed. And I don't have a hoist.

Hang on. You have a plural on drag links. Are you only having the drag link replaced? or all the tie rod ends? as that will change things....

Looks like you are in Brisbane - try Murchison Products or 7 Slot Offroad - both Jeep specialists and will replace the ball joints with good quality non genuine rather than over priced under quality genuine items - and most likely significantly less money too.

He's quoted for two parts under the heading "drag link" (~$560) and one part under "lower ball joint" (~$530). No mention of tie rod ends. Also a hundred bucks for wheel alignment. Does this sound right ?
