Get the CRD, you can always buy Rubicon gear. My son and I both run the CRD (JK and KJ use same VM engine) and it pulls Prado's out of bogs, tows 2 tonne boats, hauls campers for thousands of Ks and still gets great fuel economy. And did I mention its ability to crawl!

Buelljeeper, I got the CRD with off road group (rear locker/3.73ratio/auto sway bar disco) and its a ripper, more than happy with it. For me it was well worth the wait.

I tow a small caravan with it, the CRD with the 3.73 is perfect. On hwy about 9lt per 100k with van around at 11 to 12 Lt/100k, thats hauling at 100 to 110kph

As glend said, heaps of power out of the VM

Very happy with the 3.8 V6 sport Haven't done 10,000k's yet but getting closer.Going wheeling for the first time tomorrow, so will be good to see how it performs. This is my first auto which will make tomorrow a big learning experience but I think it will be a good advantage off road with no clutch to worry about.

The V6 has heaps of power which I am only just starting to unleash A bit concerned about how torquey it will be but there is only one way to find this out.

I would have loved to have gotten the Rubicon but will have to wait a while before I can travel down that path.As for the CRD, for me I can not justify the extra $$$ for a different engine.I also have trust issues with diesels.

I nearly just brought the sports, but then after looking at all the extras on the Rubicon went for it with the Adventure Pack, so got steel bupers and bars, lockers, low ratios all factory fitted and without voiding warranty. Would have gone a V8 or diesel if there was one offered in Rubicon spec.
But basically I took what was on the floor, rather than wait a month or 7, I origially put the deposit on a Sport, but then asked for a Rubicon and the dealer had a Green and a Maroon one, took the green, didn't even know which green it was till I picked it up

I have the CRD and like most if it came out in the Rubi sales would have bounced through the roof.....but by adding a little bit at a time you end up with a great diesel JK.......that's if you hang onto them long enough......mines nearly 2 years old with 29000 clicks on the clock......almost time to buy a new one...........
