How many of you CRD owners would have upgraded to the Rubicon had a diesel been made available - I would say quite alot!!!! How many of you Rubicon owners would have bought the deisel version had it been available - I would say quite alot!!!

Stop this CRD vs. Rubicon bull!!!!!!
So True!
Rubi owners are paying out on Diesel owners and Diesel owners are paying out on Rubi owners when the fault clearly lies with DC, not any jeep owner.

When faced with a choice of Diesel or Rubi I chose Diesel, that doesn't mean I wasn't really, really angry about having to make that choice. I almost changed my mind about buying a Wrangler altogether.

I was even more angry when I found out the Diesel was a straight 4 instead of a v6.

We should all be bagging the yanks not each other!

Well as i approach the 100,000km mark, quick sums reveal that my diesel has payed for itself over the petrol ($4k extra) and now I'm saving serious dollars.

Even with prices 10-15cents higher than petrol and a peak price of 186c/ltr down near the border, the sums do stack up. My average no bullshit fuel economy would be around 10.4-10.7l/100km. My service cost may have been marginally higher than a petrol, but I shopped around and was looked after by a mate.

Considering the fact that a diesel has a longer life span and better resale in almost every 4wd ever built, i couldn't be happier.

at risk of being flamed for correcting you:

None of the japanese V type diesels are from the "stone age". Infact they're all very much from the 21st century and very good powerplants. Toyota's 4.5L V8 turbo diesel is *epic* and is currently not producing anywhere near what it is capable of and the nissan/renault 3.0L DCi is right up there with what Audi are putting out.

how many v6 do you see in europe? hmm. off the top of my head, Audi/porsche/vw, Ford/Jaguar/Landrover, mercedes benz, renault/nissan just to name a few.
