Default Well, that was...'fun'

Replaced clutch, slave cylinder, & associated bearings when the ToB seized at ~155,000km. Now at 184,000km the slave just blew out.

Made the 40km drive home in not-quite-peak-hour traffic... interesting. Many years ago, figured out how to drive & change gears without using the clutch bu matching revs to road speed. Never really needed it until now, though.

What fluid are you using in the clutch system - DOT 3 or 4? I used to have a GQ Patrol that would leak clutch fluid after 18 months if I used DOT 4 fluid in the system. Once I changed it back to DOT 3 (original spec) the problem disappeared.

Cheers

DOT3. I got my son (who was driving on his L's when it failed!), to pump it while I had a look. I could see the fluid just leak out as the pedal went straight to the floor. I'll call this morning to see if the local stealership has one & how much they want for it. Otherwise I'll see if the failed seal can be fixed while I wait the week for one from the US.

Well, having pulled the slave out of the bellhousing, I can categorically say that it isn't a failed seal. The piston shaft that protrudes from the slave presses the lever for the ToB, has, in fact snapped in half!

Yeah, there's no fixing that. On the plus side, the bits didn't actually fall into the bellhousing so I was able to fish them out ok.

Stupid plastic parts.

Well the place in Melbourne that had it advertised, didn't actually have one and only when I asked after 2 weeks where it was, and why it hadn't shipped, that they told me they were waiting for one to arrive, probably in their warehouse on the 15th. Canceled that one & got a refund.

Ordered from the oh-so-reliable Rockauto, instead, on the 7th. Arrived on the doorstep yesterday, the 14th, and got it installed and bled in about an hour.

All good now!
