Roof top tent
Hi,
I want to use a top roof tent on my JGC WK2. I searched the forum but couldn't find advice about a setup, I read that the roof rails cannot handle the weight so I need to add other roof rails? for example Rocky Road Steel Roof Rails? Is there anything available in Australia?
Thanks in advance for any help

Plenty have done the RTT.
I have had bad experience with the roof structure mounts so I dont have any thing good to say.
You would be better to get some cross bars that go out to the eaves or gutters like the old style roof racks. Ignore the use of the roof rails if possible.

A note to keep in mind, the weight limits are the rolling/moving limits, so unless you plan on driving while in your tent you can use a variety of setups. I am a fan of minimal that I can take on and off as needed - and while I haven't bought the tent yet, (Christmas won't sneak up on me this year!) I have heard good things about this as a guide for a setup. Know it is a JK setup but I would imagine the parts are similar:
Of course, if you plan on using it often and want heavy duty full-time rack, there are lots of guides for that as well. Be sure to let us know what you end up going with and how it works!

I went the Uneek route as it has the most carrying weight either live or dead loads.

Hi,
Thank you for the information. I am looking for a low budget solution for now so I think I will see if I can get some crossbars indeed which does not use the rails.
Unfortunately there is still not a lot of info online about a desired setup, low budget. But will keep searching.
Thanks again for all the input.

Looks like a nice setup! I was planning to make the care more of road worthy but since I bought it I had a problem with the check engine light. Catalyst converter. Bought it second hand at Mitsubishi dealer and they will finally replace the catalyst converter but it made me doubt a bit about the reliabilty of the car.. So still doubting if I should spend all the money in it
