So I dropped my GC off to Jeep Kraft in Perth to get the 20k service done and was talking to them about the S49 and the later ECM/PCM update. They can do both but suggested just getting the later ECM/PCM update done and don't do S49. Has anybody done this?

My missus signed a registered post letter the other day from FCA regarding the S49. Wonder if they chase me up whether I can say I have had it done elsewhere and not do it. Any comments on this?

I got that registered mail for the s49 recall too, looks like an arse covering exercise. I guess you could get just the post-S49 update done and see what happens, if it acts up they should be able to apply both updates over the top.

Yeh they called me back and said they couldn't do it in the end. Needs to go to Jeep. They could do both but it would cost me. Would be cheaper than usual as they hadn't done one yet but free at Jeep so guess it will go to Jeep. Someday.

so what is the general consensus on the S49 have they got it right or are there still issues and how will that effect our insurance if we don't get the update? I also don't like the fact MY14 15s are not upgrading to 5W-40 like the MY16s and as per JEEPs service bulletins its how you ask the query

I think you'll find 2014/15 CRD's are to use 5W-40 oil too, the Diesel Supplement has been updated.

It says it in the USA Supplement manual too, but it also says oil must meet MS10902 spec. Anyone found an oil that meets it in Australia?

My thought is that without something in writing from FCA Australia that to maintain warranty you will want to stay with 5w30 MS11106. If you really want a heavier weight oil use Mobil1, it is almost 5w40.
