F#$#!

OK. This is the 3rd time I have tried to reply. The last 2 times I got a message about "token expired go back & refresh" and it deleted everything I had typed. So now for the short form: (Images linked in order mentioned.)

The Aggressive end of the A/T spectrum:
Duratrac
Kumho Road Venture MT51
Kanati Trail Hog

Midrange:
Falken Wildpeak AT3W
Kelly Safari TSR
General Grabber AT2, (new version AT3)
Nitto Terra Grappler G2

Closer to highway:
Comforser CF 1000

The Duratrac is in the $300-$400 range at the high end, (at full price at the moment), most of the others are $250-$330 range, except for the Comforser wich I have seen priced around $130 in 265/70r17.

Looking at tread pattern alone, I'm thinking either the Kanati Trail Hog or Kelly Safari TSR might be the best compromise between MTs and ATs.

Default Kumho 51 series

There are two 51 series kumhos the AT51 are pictured left and the MT51 are right. The AT51 is marketed as a 70/30 road/offroad and the MT51 a 50/50 road/offroad. Can't say whether either are any good, the MT51s are getting a good review however are a fairly new tyre so not sure how much credibility those reviews have.

The TSR reminds me of the Mickey Thompson ATZ 4 rib.

Now, the other question is, are there any real data on how noisy they each are? I doubt it. All I can find is, "I thought these were quieter than the others." or tyre compay bar graphs to show how they think their performance is, but not relative to anything else. So not really all that useful.

Euro db ratings are available for some tyres.

I went from Bighorns to Kelly Safari TSR and I couldn't be happier. They are quieter but I'm comparing that to the Bighorns at the end of their life so I can't really say what they're like when compared new for new. Frankly, I'd never buy Bighorns again. They cracked and chipped and were rooted by 40,000 km. I've had the TSRs for 20,000 km and they're still like new. I was always happy with the way the Bighorns handled for what they were and I'd say that the TSRs are better in that department. Long story short, I'll be looking at the TSRs again if I get more than 60,000 km out of them, which I'm sure I will.
