Again from Novak, the NV3550, as found in TJ Wranglers from 2000 - 2004, as well as the AX-15 found in earlier TJs, adapts to the Ford "butterfly" bellhousing through an adapter kit:

I'm pretty sure that includes the 4L 6 cylinder, but I'm not sure. This solves adapting problems, at least - provided the wiring loom from the Ford engine is used, it should be "plug-n-play", so to speak.

I'd like to retain as much stock equipment as possible, so that it's literally a matter of pull out, drop in, flash and go.

I'm pretty keen on getting this done, it's just going to take me time and money. So without putting a timeframe on things, I'm all for trying this.
Yeah seeing he said exactly what i did???????

bigredtj, sorry if I missed what you said earlier, I tend to do that a lot. I don't mean it as anything against you!

Hehe ok, fair enough. I guess I'm just trying not to make people hate me.

In other news, still waiting for Jeep Action to at least respond.

Just seen this thread. been thinking of the same thing but with ef el or an au engine, more power then the jeep 6 but you can either supercharge it or turbo with change from 4gs, only a couple of things like the sump and oil pickup would have to be changed as its at the front of the engine and wont clear the diff. the wiring side and gauges would be another problem and mounting, also the clutch setup is cable on ford bellhounsing.
