Default NSW Engineering Certificate

Hi Guys,

Looking at getting my first jeep and have been speaking with Frank from ATV five dock about buying a vehicle and getting an engineers cert which doesn't seem to be a problems.

Question for guys in NSW is do I really need it. I am coming across so many jeeps in NSW with 3 4 inch lifts 35inch wheels and no engineers certificate.

I email all of then to ask if they have one and out of probably 20 jeeps I have looked at 1 has had an engineers certificate and they put it on there listing.

Should I just pay for the certificate or run the gauntlet like everyone else seems to. Plan on doing a lot more upgrades once I find one im happy with have one now I really like just need the finance. But would like to hear peoples opinions.

Cheers

This is your decision. I was going the engineering route but then just moved everything so it fit within the rules because it just wasn't worth the cost for something that didn't add much more. But if you're looking for someone to tell you it is okay to ignore the law, you're not going to find it on a public forum!

Go the engineer's certificate. Yes it's expensive but so is having your vehicle defected when you are pulled over.

Then there's the strong chance you will be picked up when it's roadworthy inspection time for rego.

Inspections are easy to get around but, nothing is going to fix your liability if something goes seriously wrong and your insurance company bails on you. When i was younger i did some dumb things modification wise, these days i am much more guarded.

Any recommended engineers to go to in NSW?

Looking at getting the standard AEV 3.5 + 315/70R17s engineered.

just be mindful that with an illegally modified vehicle your insurance may be void in the case of an accident. the insurance company will claim the accident was caused by the illegal modifications.

Thanks for the advice some of the more heavily modified jeeps don't seem to sell and I'm thinking that's because there not engineered so if I get a good price it's not that expensive to get ATV five dock to engineer it.

They were recommended to be by jeepkonnetion I was considering a hemi conversion and they said they were the ones to speak to in NSW and I've flicked them a few cars I'm looking at and they have said no problem they can do it for this price.

Think I'll just get it done just for peace of mind.
