Default 17's on WK2? Can it be done??

I'm looking to get some 17" wheels (and Muddys) for my WK2, anyone know if they fit or if there are any particular rims I should look for?

Matt.

CRDSTU's wheels look to fit in a 17" but I don't know what he has done to make them fit.

Maybe better to fit a 275-70-18 Mickey Thompson MTZ for the current wheel and find some 20's for road use.

It depends on the options on your WK2. If you have the larger brake callipers, (which I believe are standard on the Trailhawk) then 17" rims will not fit without some grinding or alteration. I've got a pair of 18" Mopar rims for off-road and only use my stock 20" rims on-road.

The largest tire size that will fit without modifications is 275/65R18, (which is about 32" tall and 10.8" wide). The only proper muddies I could find in this size were, Maxxis Bighorn MT-762s. There are several good A/T tires around (Cooper, Mickey Thompson, etc.) and you can get BFGoodrich MTs in a slightly smaller size, but they cost a fortune.

Hope that helps.

bmackin - I was under the impression that all export WK2s came with HD brakes (the bigger ones), and it was only the US where the trim level determined the brake size. I'm happy to be proven wrong, but that's what I've heard

Yeah, thanks. I checked the Trailhawk when i visited it at the dealer and it has the vented rear rotors which i think someone said was an indicator of the HD larger brakes. My Dad has the Bighorns on his Disco-3 and they seem pretty good. They are priced pretty well too. Do you know when the 275/70-18's scrubbed, was it only on access mode? I would only use them for off road and the trek to and from.
