Default New TH Boots - Toyo Open Country AT/2

I decided that I wanted some tyres with a bit more dirt credibility to see me through some off road training and some family adventures out to Coober Pedy and beyond.

I've gone with the standard size which really does narrow the choices down - in the end I've put a set of Toyo AT/2s on.

Initial impressions are pretty good though I haven't left the blacktop yet. Fuel consumption is up a bit, but not much. Ditto tyre noise - up a bit, but not a huge amount. They feel rock solid in the dry and didn't miss a beat in the wet we had this week, so they're certainly going to be fine for weekday duties as my daily ride.

I'll let you know how they fair off road when I get back from playing with the Melbourne Jeep folks at their training course in Kilmore at the end of the month.

Still not great in soggy clay but did a lot better than the vehicles running stock!

There's a little bit of sideways action in there but mostly she held it together pretty well.

I'd love to go with Hankook Dynapro M/Ts on our TH - I figure our most difficult circumstance is gonna ever be negotiating greasy clay / mud type situations in the wet season - but I'm still trying to find out if I can even get them in 245/65 or 245/70 here in Aus.

You info on those Toyos is awesome as an option we now know works!! (thumbsup)

Still waiting for mine to arrive but have pretty much settled on 245/70 Duratracs. Been running them on my Wrangler in 285/70 for over 2 years and 50,000km and only around 1/3 worn. Been fantastic on the road off road and sand but haven't done any mud since I had them.

Since I cant go any wider the side biters on the sidewall gives that bit extra traction.

I fitted some Bridgestone Dueler Mud terrians in 245/70R17 a bit bigger than the 65s (every bit helps) no rubbing and HEAPS of grip in the mud not so good on high speed roundabouts when new #scary

What wheels did you go for for the muddies, and what did they set you back / where did you get 'em? I'm getting the itch big time...
