Another thing too Dave , the towbar sits so bloody low and my van is lifted so I've had to buy a raised hitch to get the height up and will probably still have to use a raised ball as well .

I need about 48cm at the top of the hitch and the raised hitch brings it up to about 45cm so I'll have to use the raised ball to get the van to sit near level .

The TH might have more ground clearance than mine .

Yeah we dont get the US style hitch receiver for the TH for some reason so it will sit the same as yours plus the extra 2in or so for the TH. I do have an adjustable hitch from the JK as I had to drop the ball a few inches on it!

Had a look through the wiring diagram I found on another site - clearly shows the trailer brake wiring and relay and its labelled NON EXPORT ONLY.....

So opened up the one listed Export vehicles and no relays or separate fuses and no wiring for trailer brakes. Not happy at all...

For anyone interested - https://techauthorityonlinedemo.extr...S8FW783165&s=2

There is a wiring harness and ECU that comes with, or is available with, the HR towbar anyway. It's needed because all modern vehicles have a canbus electrical system which is liable to cause errors to be thrown if extra wiring is added to it without the appropriate electronic correction, which the ECU does.

Mention this because it's not discussed here although it may be a given with you blokes. Will be getting a HR towbar fitted to mine soon.

Mine will have the factory tow bar installed with the factory tow package and factory tow pack wiring. All Australian models are fitted with the factory tow pack and wiring and like all other Jeep models for some reason do not get fitted with the relays.

That said, aftermarket wiring looms like the HR will usually have relays installed - that way they can not be blamed for any issues with the factory systems.

HR towbar and HR loom with ECU installed today by a fitter, apparently the bar is the easy part, but the loom not so easy with a fair bit of work involved. Nothing wrong with it, just the amount of work involved running the wires and so on. Cost about $850 all up.

Just an update on brake controllers .

THERE IS DEFINATELY NO PLUG UNDER THE DASH .

I looked everywhere under the dash , and I mean everywhere . Nothing to be found , pulled off a lot of panels , even looked on L/H side as sometimes Jeep can't be bothered to transfer a lot of things to the right when they do RHD . Also checked with the dealer and they have never heard of the plug . Checked with probably the biggest fitter of towbars in Brisbane and they say no plug . So if you are planning to fit a brake controller in a KL don't waste your time looking for it .

However , I found out that Hayman Reese put out a fairly elaborate looking harness for brake controllers that can be used in the KL , I'm having my Tekonsha P3 fitted on monday by Arrow Towbars using this harness , $200 including the harness .

I'll take some photos of the harness on monday before he fits it and post it with some part numbers .

Cheers
Brian
