I'd look at Thumpers from Home of 12 Volt. Portable, batteries are replaceable, good warranty, they come with an in-car charge kit that's dead easy to install (I know, I installed mine and I'm the opposite of handy) most have 150amp Anderson for jump-starting as well as a variety of plugs to suit whatever accessories you have. They're an awesome bit of kit. Good prices on-line too with free freight from memory.

I have a battery box I made myself with 2x 15Ah Thumper replacement batteries for 30Ah total (I was off sick from work for about 4 1/2 months and needed to keep busy). I don't have a fridge (esky only at this stage) so no need for lots of amp hours. The in-car charge kit that comes with Thumpers is sold separately and I bought that to charge my battery box. When I buy a fridge I'll buy a Thumper. I know a lot of people who own them, some with two. Running a fridge would be minimum 60Ah. They come in size from 15 to about 105 or 110Ah or somewhere there. Check out the website, I shop at the Southern one at Mt Barker SA as it's near me.

PS, my 30Ah runs all my mp3 player, mobile phone, bluetooth speaker and led light strip needs for a 3 to 5 day camping trip.

This is a great topic. Having an XJ, space is limited both under the hood and in the cabin. I have seen mixed reviews about Arkpac. For now, I am using the trusty eskis with blocks of ice. After many years of being away from the outback and then returning, I have noticed that retail food outlets have either closed or the ones remaining usually have a run on their stock and don't get resupplied quickly. Try buying fresh meat etc... One needs to buy larger eskis or fridge freezers to sustain themselves on outback travel.

My experience is with the Kings 65L fridge.
1. If you are running a lead from the front make sure it is a thick cable or it simply does not work
2. With a new fully charged Yellow top recently last summer it ran @ -1 for 4 days and was till going the next morning before i unplugged it. This was a stand alone battery not a start battery.

So i bit the bullet and bought the uneek4x4 battery box to pout the stand alone yellow top battery in and the Projecta 150A dual battery system in prep for our cape journey.
