Jimmy777....I have heard of an issue at the 'weak point' you are talking about....combined tranny/ac cooler unit leaks....the unit fails....may or may not be the issue here but it is a 'common' fault....Le Cheese...maybe a visit to an a/c shop or 7-Slot could be a help ???

Thanks gents - haven't driven it in a few days but the AC wasn't gurgling yet. Chucked a query on Facebook too and the consensus is also condenser, and yep, the lower passenger side is a common failure point, so it all checks out.

I'm keeping an eye on my LDAS though just to make sure, as apparently the steering coolers are also a reasonably known failure point - apparently it can push into the condenser causing it to split...

She's booked in for a service (at my usual independent Jeep specialist) in a few weeks time and have flagged the issue and likely change of condenser. Thankfully no bullbar on the front to make it difficult - the first thing he asked!

Feel the fluid thats leaked between your fingers, feel and smell will tell what it is.......... and since the LDAS is green and the Tranny oil is light yellow then my money is on the PS cooler leaking.......... unless the AC refrigerant has had a leak die added at some other time but again it wouldn't be in that quanity and usually comes up as a small patch.

Yeah to me it feels oily, but the smell is distinctly different from LDAS - forgive the creative license, but LDAS almost has a mango smell to it, whereas whatever's leaking reminds me distinctly of a cattle farm!

Unfortunately I don't have the time to take the bumper off and have a proper look at the moment (and the lighter in the lower grill impedes the view in), so it's going to have to be a case of keeping an eye on fluids and crossing fingers that nothing goes further south

Interesting description of smell, I'll be out in my shed after smoko so will have a sniff, though I have a dead mouse in there thats over powering everything so sheds getting a clean out...... wouldn't believe how many screws and bolts are under my benches...

Hose it off and see if it comes back, thats the other test, coolant washes away ....

When I have that cattle yard smell its usually something i ran over....

An update for the sake of completeness - it was the AC condenser that had sprung a leak in 'the usual spot' on the lower passenger side. My wallet's not too happy, but with it warming up here in SEQ, the rest of my body sure is.

Amazing I wouldn't have thought by the pic there would be that much dripping from an AC, never seen it before usually an oily smear that doesn't go too far.... I wonder if Jeep add a leak test into the system like they add a leak stop to the coolant ?
