Default bit of help on an oldie

hey guys, I haven't got much info but was wondering if anyone can point me in the right direction. I'm looking at a 1968 (pretty sure) jeep, 3 tonne (dual rear) 4wd tray back.definately right hand drive with a simple straight six petrol. ANy ideas on model?...trying to track down info on this one and can't nail it. Thanks in advance. If I can work out what it is, I;m then looking at parts availabilty and a rough value.

In 1965 Jeep changed the model number to a four digit number with the exception of the J-100 panel delivery truck. In 1967 the two wheel drive models were dropped. In 1970, the Gladiators received the same style grill as the Wagoneer, which was the first styling change since its introduction. 1971 marked the end of the 3000 series and in 1972 the "Gladiator" name was dropped and the J trucks were simply called Jeep trucks.

J-2500 1/2 ton 5000 GVW (120")
J-2600 1/2 ton 6000 GVW (120")
J-2700 3/4 ton 7000 GVW (120")
J-2800 1 ton 8600 GVW (120")
J-3500 1/2 ton 5000 GVW (126")
J-3600 1/2 ton 6000 GVW (126")
J-3700 3/4 ton 7000 GVW (126")
J-3800 1 ton 8600 GVW (126")

The engine is most likely the Tornado engine if it has not been replaced already with something else. Thirsty.
Parts are available mostly by finding what will fit off what other manufacturers vehicles. American truck manufacturers used the same parts from American component makers. Later model bits generally adapt and are better then the original.

Its probably a J-3000 with it having dual rear wheels... If it is a 68 it should have the 232 6cyl but it might of had a motor change the 6cyl ford was a popular choice.. the earlier model J-300 truck had the 230 over head cam tornado...You dont see them come up for sale very often so value is what ever some one wants to pay for it ..parts arnt a problem but the earlier j trucks are one of the harder jeep models to get parts for ...probably will need to shop in the US for any hard to get bits but the basics will be available hereMick

thats great guys.thanks. I don't have pics but will shortly and will post. Thats really given me something to go on, searched on the j3000 and the front end of the one I'm looking at looks just like a 'gladiator' but with dual rears and 4wd....It's a 3tonne GVM I'm pretty sure. Appreciate any more thoughts on a rough value.

As Toyrox said.....

its worth what you are prepared to pay.
How clean is it? Rust in the cab is the biggest issue, roof, floor, etc etc.
If its clean and restored it could be over $5k, if you want to pay that much.

Bits can be found on
www.bjsoffroad.com
www.zandmjeeps.com
www.familyparts.com

Also get an online subscription to jp magazine, lots of advertisers in there for NOS and reproduction jeep bits.

Of course, Wooders is also a source of knowledge and will help with parts too.
