Default TJ: Wrangler (Cheap and Nasty)

Landed in Perth at 1500 yesterday afternoon, Picked the Jeep up and drove to Kalgoorlie. Car sales yard said they changed the rear diff during the week and on the road the speedo had to be on 152kmh to = 110

Thinking to myself this morning, they must of been smart enough to match the front with the rear??? Simple check, put it in 4wd and got instant diff wind up so I guess they didn't.

So immediate shopping list at the moment is:

- New front bar as the existing is a homemade thingy (just about organized the new one).
- Sunvisors missing
- Plastic sunvisor mounts, plastic broken (organized new metal ones).
- Radiator looks suspicious
- Need a full aircon kit
- carpet
- RH front indicator lens smashed
- I guess front and rear diff as no idea what's in it now

Well they obviously stuck the wrong diff ratio in. I would be at them to either replace the rear diff properly or change the front ratios to match (especially if you are contemplating larger tyres)!!

TJ reading 152 kph
You will be needing a different speedo gear to match tyre size/diff ratio.

Looks like you have some bigger issues but the mirror mounts always flake on the early (97-02) models.
I spray mine with some matt black from time to time.

Not knowing what diff is in the rear, I am digging around for a front and rear set. I guess Cherokee diff centres fit (which would allow a broader search)?

With the mirrors yep I need to touch up a lot of black bits all over the car. Maybe start that tomorrow.

Well a fairly productive day

- New front ARB bar and Winch (paying for this tonight then will just need to then organize shipping).
- Rugged Ridge Sunvisors (bought these)
- Metal sunvisor mounts (bought these).
- Rugged Ridge Locking fuel cap (bought)
- Rugged Ridge Bonnet lock (bought)
- Rugged Ridge Roll Bar Handles Red (waiting on postage cost)
- Tail Light Guards in Black (waiting on postage cost)
- Radiator looks suspicious
- Need a full aircon kit (one day)
- carpet
- RH front indicator lens smashed
- I guess front and rear diff as no idea what's in it now
- needs a new top radiator hose
- needs a set of lock nuts for the wheels

Pulled a huge amplifier out that was under the rear seat. Dunno what I am going to do with this at the moment as I am not into using the car as a mobile nightclub

With the unknown diff ratio, you can find what it is by lifting one when off the ground, mark a spot on it and spin the driveshaft. Count how many turns of the driveshaft are needed for the wheel to make a full turn. Chances are it'll be one of these: 3.07, 3.73, 4.11, 4.56, or 4.88. Worst case scenario, open the diff housing and look on the ring gear, the ratio should be stamped on the outer edge.

Cheers...... tomorrows job. I better check the back and the front, just to make sure the front is not weird.
